Fun open house- got to see the inner workings of the shows we love. Beautiful new facility with a great rooftop
KQED obliterates what public radio SHOULD be. I love public radio. KQED is IMHO NOT public radio. It is a corporate entity seeking your money to shove their inadequate local programming down our collective throats. I sometimes listen to national news on KQED; that's when I am unable to pick up a real station by airways or internet.
The times I have listened, and I once was a regular, I become bombarded by requests for money. Now, I understand the public side of all of this but.... KQED ain't public, they're corporate. They don't serve the public, they serve themselves. While many might disagree, this is how things appear and appear so obvious.
KQED would like the public to believe that The Public is their primary sponsor. I don't believe this is factual and KQED, rather, is under corporate sponsorship primarily serving The Corporate Community (think Citizens United S.C. ruling). You can even notice this yourselves in their subtle phrasing of requests for money. I'm certain that they fool many people but many many more are not fooled and simply wish that a more deserving Steward of our airways were as readily available.
I admit it: I find their distorted take on public service as somewhat offensive. I have to wonder... If KQED is a sponsored public radio station then why does KQED regularly sponsor OTHERS businesses? That makes ZERO sense IF you are a sponsored PUBLIC station.
It's simple, KQED wants ever more MONEY for KQED. If they have to violate the spirit of public radio and public service they are totally down. Kinda Shameful.
Please, with all of their cash flow, offer some decent original programming that serves the entire community, not just The Tech Industry or cash-rich corporate businesses.
At least stop hoodwinking the general public and be more transparent about where their money comes from and where, exactly, it goes.
PS: Donate your old car to Bay Area Air Quality Management instead. You will receive a rebate and better serve the community by removing an older polluter from our transportation system. This is infinitely more worthy.
Been a member for a long time. Attended a KQED live event. Bay Curious Trivia night. Place is fantastic, the renovated building is beautiful.
Be sure to pay them a visit when they host their open house block parties. Very cool space.
I went to see a comedy show there last week, and I loved the organization their provided during the event. Very organized and spacious to hang out a little after the event 😀 👍 They have other interesting events that include youth and other groups with interesting ideas 💡 …
Such an impressive operation. Came here for a live show and had an absolute blast.
The remodel is amazing. The architecture uses many natural materials combined with a clean, modern, asthetic.
If you’re looking for spectacular and dynamic events, you’ve found your place. The experiences at KQED live couldn’t be more original and inspiring.
